A Kansas City man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison without parole for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Marcus J. Porras, 32, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Beth Phillips.
Porras pleaded guilty on August 5, 2025, admitting that he possessed a Glock 43, 9mm pistol on April 13, 2025. On that date, officers from the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department responded to Westport Road and Broadway Boulevard after private security detained Porras following a fight.
According to reports, security officers were alerted by patrons about an altercation inside an establishment in the Westport Entertainment District. The officer observed several women and two men fighting; after the women left, the two men continued their confrontation. One of them pointed at Porras and indicated he had a firearm.
Porras was taken into custody. Security retrieved a loaded Glock 43 with one live round in the chamber near where the incident occurred and also recovered a magazine with six additional rounds.
Federal law prohibits anyone convicted of a felony from possessing firearms or ammunition. Porras has previous felony convictions for first-degree robbery (two counts), armed criminal action (two counts), unlawful use of a weapon – exhibiting, and resisting arrest by fleeing.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica Jennings prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Kansas City Police Department.
“This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.”
