The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Apr. 25 the selection of former Oregon defensive back Jadon Canady with the No. 109 pick in the NFL Draft.
Canady’s addition is significant for the Chiefs’ secondary, as he brings a record of strong defensive play from his college career. The team highlighted that Canady allowed only 104 receiving yards last season, which was the lowest among all draft-eligible cornerbacks.
In traditional statistics, Canady recorded eight passes defensed, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a tackle-for-loss during his final season at Oregon. He also allowed just five first-down receptions throughout the year, leading all Power Four conference cornerbacks with at least thirty targets in 2025.
Canady primarily played as a slot cornerback last season, logging most of his snaps in that position. “[I like that it provides] the ability to cover, read and react on certain plays – a pass or run,” Canady said. “That spot allows you to play free and fast.” He also mentioned taking pride in his special teams contributions during his post-draft press conference.
Before transferring to Oregon for his final collegiate year, Canady spent time at Tulane and Ole Miss. Reflecting on these experiences, he said: “[I think it will help] a lot, just being in different locker rooms,” adding that learning various defenses was helpful for his development. According to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, Canady’s work ethic improved at each stop throughout his college journey.
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Canady began playing sports early and attended Duncan U. Fletcher High School before later transferring to Sandalwood High School.
