From snow plowing to road grading, inspections to waste collections, the Public Works team plays a crucial role in maintaining Jackson County’s infrastructure and facilities. The county is observing National Public Works Week from May 18 to 24, 2025.

Since its inception in 1960, the third week of May has been designated as National Public Works Week. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy issued a proclamation recognizing public works as essential to national health and welfare while commending the dedication of public works professionals. “It is in the public interest for the citizens and civic leaders of this country to gain knowledge of and to maintain a progressive interest in the public works needs and programs of their respective communities,” stated the proclamation.

This year’s theme, “People, Purpose, Presence,” emphasizes the ideals that inspire public works professionals to serve their communities daily.

During this week, County Executive Frank White Jr. engaged with Jackson County Public Works associates and presented proclamations to three divisions within the department: Administration, Engineering and Planning Division; Facilities Division; and Road and Bridge Maintenance Division.

Additionally, on May 19, the Jackson County Legislature passed a resolution honoring Public Works Week and acknowledging the contributions made by Jackson County’s Public Works employees.
