The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce announced on April 27 that its Board of Directors has endorsed the Kansas City Housing Gateway Program, following a presentation by Board Member Kevin Barth of Commerce Bank.

The endorsement is significant as it reflects the Chamber’s commitment to advancing economic prosperity, workforce stability, and inclusive growth in the region. The resolution highlights the importance of access to safe, stable, and affordable housing as a key element for a strong regional economy.

According to the resolution adopted by the Board, the Kansas City Housing Gateway Program aims to create a coordinated homelessness response system that connects individuals and families with housing and support services efficiently. A core goal is achieving ‘Functional Zero,’ which means building enough system capacity so that people experiencing homelessness are housed quickly and sustainably.

The program also seeks to increase public awareness by communicating goals and progress clearly to stakeholders. It emphasizes transparency through data reporting and aims for long-term management by the City of Kansas City, Missouri. Clutch Consulting has been retained for its expertise in implementing nationally recognized best practices in homelessness systems.

An independent advisory council made up of business and philanthropic leaders will provide oversight and promote accountability for measurable results. The Chamber said this endorsement underscores “the importance of private-sector leadership and cross-sector collaboration in advancing effective, long-term housing and homelessness solutions.”
