Today in St. Louis, Governor Mike Kehoe announced his appointments to the newly established St. Louis City Board of Police Commissioners. This board was created following the passage of House Bill 495 and will serve as the governing body for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD).
Governor Kehoe stated, “This board represents a renewed commitment to public trust and local oversight.” He emphasized that the board aims to reflect the needs and values of St. Louis residents while supporting SLMPD personnel.
The board comprises six members: Mayor Cara Spencer with full voting rights, four governor-appointed voting members who are city residents, and one non-voting commissioner appointed by the governor who either resides or owns property in the city.
The appointees include:
– Brad Arteaga, an entrepreneur leading several businesses in St. Louis, known for his civic involvement. Arteaga will serve a one-year term as a voting member.
– Donald “Don” Brown, an automotive executive deeply engaged with community boards. Brown will be the non-voting member for four years.
– Sonya Jenkins-Gray, a human resources executive with extensive leadership experience in both public and private sectors. Jenkins-Gray is appointed for a two-year term as a voting member.
– Edward McVey, owner of Maggie O’Brien’s Restaurant and Irish Pub, active in local organizations. McVey will serve a three-year term as a voting member.
– Chris Saracino, owner of Bartolino’s Hospitality Group and co-founder of Campbell Security and Services Group, involved in various charitable organizations. Saracino is appointed for a four-year term as a voting member.
Transition Director Derek Winters will assist the board during its initial phase to ensure smooth operations without disrupting city residents or SLMPD personnel. The commissioners are tasked with establishing meeting policies and bylaws while overseeing police department policies and budgets.
