Country Club Plaza announced on April 2 that the carillon bells in the Giralda Tower will resume ringing, starting Easter Sunday, April 5, at noon. The return of the bells brings back a familiar sound to Kansas City and marks an effort to enhance the visitor experience at this well-known shopping and dining destination.

The reintroduction of the carillon bells is part of ongoing improvements intended to reinvigorate Country Club Plaza. Scott Keller, General Manager of Country Club Plaza, said, “Bringing the carillon bells back to the Country Club Plaza is a special moment for us. As we continue to invest in the Plaza’s future with new retailers, restaurants, and property enhancements, we’re also reintroducing signature elements that contribute to its distinct character and experience.”

The Giralda Tower’s carillon first began ringing in 1967 after its completion and continued until the early 2000s. For decades, their chimes were an integral part of daily life around the district.

Gillon Property Group and Country Club Plaza are bringing back this tradition as they work on other enhancements throughout the property. Recent updates include new tenants such as LoveShackFancy and improvements like upgrades to building façades and towers.

The bells will ring hourly from Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., with musical selections played during opening and closing hours each day. On Sundays, they will sound from noon until 6 p.m.

Country Club Plaza originally opened in 1923 as one of America’s first planned suburban shopping centers designed for automobile access. Its architectural style was inspired by Seville, Spain—a nod to Kansas City’s sister city—and today it remains a central feature in Kansas City with a wide variety of shops and restaurants.
