The upcoming 2026 NFL Draft is generating attention as analysts focus on top prospects, with a spotlight on the running back position, according to an April 6 preview. The event is set to showcase several players considered among the best in this year’s class.
Interest in these prospects matters because running backs play a key role in team offenses and draft selections can impact both player careers and team strategies. This year’s group features a mix of speed, power, and versatility.
Jeremiyah Love from Notre Dame stands out after winning the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back last year. He accumulated 1,372 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns while averaging nearly seven yards per carry. Expert analysis from NFL.com describes Love as “a dynamic weapon as a runner and receiver,” noting his ability to make defenders miss and contribute in passing situations. ESPN adds that “Love is an elite modern running back with true three-down skills…the closest thing to Reggie Bush as a prospect since he entered the NFL in 2006.” Pro Football Focus says he has “frame, athleticism, coordination and playmaker mentality” suitable for first-round selection.
Another notable name is Jadarian Price, also from Notre Dame. Price was recognized for his versatility after being named a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award last season. Analysts say Price offers “terrific vision and balance” (NFL.com) and could fit well into zone-heavy offensive schemes due to his quick acceleration (The Athletic). ESPN notes his ability as both a rusher and returner.
Other featured prospects include Mike Washington Jr., who posted impressive speed at Arkansas; Emmett Johnson of Nebraska, known for leading all players with over 150 all-purpose yards per game; and Nicholas Singleton from Penn State, who broke school records for career touchdowns.
With draft day approaching, teams are evaluating these athletes’ potential contributions at the professional level.
