Elise Taylor, Family and Community Engagement Specialist at Central Middle School, was named the Blue KC Sporting Samaritan for April 2026, according to an announcement on Apr. 13.
The recognition highlights individuals who make a positive impact in their schools and communities. Taylor’s dedication to education and her efforts to support students and families were cited as reasons for her selection.
“I genuinely love working in education!” said Taylor. She described her role as one that involves “helping bridge the gap between families, the school, volunteering, and the community.” Taylor said she strives to ensure everyone feels “connected, heard, and supported.” Reflecting on her career path after graduating from UMKC, she shared how a simple piece of advice—”don’t assume, just ask”—has guided her decisions within the Kansas City, Kansas Public School system.
Taylor emphasized the importance of building character alongside academics. “Good character helps students make better choices, build healthy relationships, and provides opportunities for students to help others grow,” she said. With more than two decades of experience working with youth in Wyandotte County, Taylor is known for highlighting achievements within her community.
“There are three things I like to remind my students,” said Taylor. “The first is to be kind to others. The second is that every adult was once a middle schooler… And the third is that being an adult is hard. Don’t rush into it and enjoy the present!”
Jenny Housley, President of Blue KC, commented on Taylor’s selection: “With her enlightening personality and gracious character, it’s evident why Elise is a Blue KC Sporting Samaritan… We are proud of her career successes to date.” Eli Jones nominated Taylor for the award and noted that she “goes above and beyond for students… helping them get essential services and necessities for life.” Fans are encouraged to nominate teachers or students making a difference through an online form at https://www.BlueKC.com/NominateSportingSamaritan.
