The Kansas City Chiefs concluded their offseason training program, setting the stage for the upcoming training camp in St. Joseph. Head Coach Andy Reid provided updates on player injuries and progress.
Wide receiver Rashee Rice and offensive tackle Josh Simmons are expected to be ready for training camp next month. “They actually got great work in during these camps here,” said Reid. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes noted Rice’s impressive recovery, stating, “He looks like Rashee…he’s explosive and he looks fast.”
Reid also gave a positive update on tight end Jared Wiley, who is recovering from an ACL tear. “I think we’re going to be OK there,” Reid mentioned.
Josh Simmons, the Chiefs’ first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, continues to make strides after rehabbing a torn patellar tendon. “He’s doing a nice job,” said Reid. Simmons expressed his eagerness to participate fully: “Whatever the staff allows me to do, I’m definitely going to do.”
Tight end Travis Kelce shared his ambitions for the season, aiming for a world championship and personal growth as a leader. “[I expect] to be the best teammate and the best leader I can,” Kelce stated.
Competition at left guard will be closely watched during camp between Kingsley Suamataia and Mike Caliendo. Suamataia seeks to build on his strong performance last season while Caliendo brings experience from starting seven games at left guard.
Safety Jaden Hicks has an opportunity this season with former starter Justin Reid no longer with the team. Hicks impressed last year with three interceptions and aims to secure a key role in Kansas City’s defense.
