The Kansas City Chiefs commenced their training camp with a practice session on Tuesday morning, marking the beginning of preparations for the upcoming season. Head Coach Andy Reid expressed his satisfaction with the turnout and energy from fans.

“It was great to get the guys back out here, and it was great for our fans to show up in the numbers that they did,” said Reid.

The roster, now consisting of 91 players after signing rookie wide receiver Hal Presley, gathered at Missouri Western State University on Sunday. They underwent athletic testing and team meetings on Monday.

Reid emphasized urgency in his message to the team. “The main thing is urgency. The urgency – keep that up. Everybody’s expectations are high,” he stated.

Tuesday’s practice involved a non-padded session lasting one hour and 25 minutes as part of a gradual ramp-up period leading to longer practices.

“These are ramp up days,” Reid explained. “It’s a gradual ramp up – not only the length of the practice but also starting with [just] shells on, and then working from there.”

The day included exclusive access for Season Ticket Members (STMs), who attended a pancake breakfast and autograph session. The next STM-exclusive practice is set for August 7.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with Xavier Worthy during drills, highlighting the focus on deep passing this season. “That’s what we have to do – we need to keep doing it though,” Mahomes remarked.

Defensively, safety Chamarri Conner made an interception in 7-on-7 drills. Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo highlighted its importance alongside offensive plays.

Wide receiver Nikko Remigio made a notable diving catch during 11-on-11 drills, demonstrating strong tracking skills.

Coach Reid provided an injury update: Jawaan Taylor, Kristian Fulton, and Tre Watson began camp on the PUP list but were present at practice. Other players like Jared Wiley and Rashee Rice participated despite previous injuries.

Reid noted Josh Simmons’ progress post-injury: “He did some good things… He has things he needs to work on.”

The Chiefs will continue their training camp with Wednesday’s session open to the public; tickets must be reserved online beforehand.
