The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Centurions Leadership Program announced on April 13 a series of events and opportunities for members, alumni, and the wider community throughout the month. The program is also inviting local non-profit organizations to apply for its annual Legacy Project.
The Centurions Leadership Program aims to prepare emerging leaders from across Greater Kansas City by engaging them in civic activities and community issues. This initiative is significant as it seeks to foster leadership development while supporting projects that benefit the broader community.
Among the highlighted events is an advocacy panel on immigration scheduled for April 30, which will address challenges and opportunities related to immigration in Kansas City. Additionally, a special screening of “Land of Opportunity: The Road of Resistance” with filmmaker Nico Giles will take place on April 29, exploring urban renewal policies that impacted more than 10,000 families through the development of Highway 71.
The program is also hosting information sessions about its two-year leadership track. Interested professionals can attend these sessions at the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy to learn more about participation requirements and objectives. Other activities include social gatherings such as Wine Education at Lavada Wines on April 14 and a casual Apex cohort event at T-Shotz.
A notable milestone this year is the centennial anniversary of Kansas City’s adoption of the Council-Manager form of government. Mayor Quinton Lucas and City Manager Mario Vasquez are set to discuss this governance model’s impact during an event on April 21.
For those interested in purpose-driven leadership, Dr. Rochelle Parker, CEO of Girl Scouts NE Kansas and NW Missouri, will lead a session focusing on authenticity in executive roles on April 29. Through these initiatives, the Centurions Leadership Program continues its mission to shape future leaders while contributing positively to local communities.
