The City Council has announced a significant change in its standing committee meeting schedule, aiming to increase efficiency and public accessibility to agenda items. Starting on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, the City Council’s regular committees will now convene on Tuesdays instead of Wednesdays.

Explaining the rationale behind the decision, a City Council representative stated, "The decision to move the committee meetings to Tuesdays stems from a comprehensive evaluation to enhance the Council's efficiency and productivity, and the public’s accessibility to agenda items." This shift will allow more time for members and the public to review items before final Council action, as well as earlier publication of the Council docket.

The new Tuesday committee schedule will be as follows:

- Transportation, Infrastructure, and Operations: 9:00 AM

- Finance, Governance, and Public Safety: 10:30 AM

- Neighborhood, Planning, and Development: 1:30 PM

Moreover, "A supermajority of City Council members supported the change, which will provide the City Clerk and departmental staff further time to prepare for Thursday Council meetings; the City Council further time for review of docketed items and matters that were approved days before in Committee meetings; and earlier access to the final Council agenda for the public."

Special committees meeting on Tuesdays will be accommodated with alternate meeting times and will be advised at least 24 hours in advance of their schedules. This adjustment aims to streamline proceedings and ensure all necessary preparations are made for the Council meetings.

The Council's decision to shift the committee meeting days reflects a strategic effort to improve productivity, enhance accessibility, and promote transparency in Council proceedings.
